Link Byfield, son of Ted Byfield, grew up in rural Manitoba near Selkirk and attended St. John’s Cathedral Boys’ School. In 1978 he moved to Alberta and in 1981 married Joanne Hatton, previously from Sarnia, Ont.

They bought an acreage and built a house near the village of Riviere Qui Barre, Alberta in 1982.

Link and Joanne and have raised four children (Eli, Colman, Silas and Elise). Two of their sons, Eli and Silas, live nearby and are raising families of their own. Link and Joanne have five grandchildren.
